No, I’m not calling you a hypocrite. But perhaps we can check ourselves if we are one by reading this.
“Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” - Matthew 15:7-9
Let us take a moment to ponder the words mentioned in the verse above.
Are we the type of people who call Jesus “Lord” and yet disobey His teachings? Do we deny being thieves and use pirated CDs / DVDs (Audio, Video, Software) ourselves? Do we “give our lives to the Lord” and yet can’t manage to turn off our cellphones during worship services? Are we the “salt” of the earth - the kind that melts during rainy season? Are we the light of the world and yet live in darkness? Let us check ourselves.
Do we lift up our hands in worship and use the same hand to hurt someone else? Do we use our eyes to read the bible and use the same to look at pornography? Do we use our lips and tongue to sing praises to God and yet use the same to slander other people and hurt their feelings? Do we use our feet to walk to church and yet use the same to go to pubs and beerhouses? Tell me.
Are we like the Pharisees who give tithes of all things and yet forsake proper judgement, mercy, and faith (Matthew 23:23)? Do we believe that God created the heavens and the earth and yet cannot believe that He can provide our daily needs? Do we confess that Jesus Christ is our Lord and yet forsake His ways of loving others? Check your hearts.
There are many other things that I can say but I guess you already got my point. Are you a hypocrite or not? Tell me… No, rather, tell God.
