A Hundred Rich Men: Do you have what it takes to be rich?
» Click here to join my team and find out.
What kind of business can a newbie jump into that requires very little learning, has a relatively small investment and is easy to operate?
Answer: FRANCHISING BUSINESS!
Yup, you heard that right! Franchising of food carts as well as services such as spas and laundry shops are the #1 craze today in the Philippines. The beauty of getting a franchise instead of starting your own business from scratch is that you practically get a “packaged business” meaning that what you pay for pays for everything you need to run the business.
This includes the logo, the food cart (kiosk, stall or whatever), training, equipment, furniture, advertising material, training, uniform and supplies. Practically all you need is the money to buy the franchise and a good location.
But how much do franchises cost? The more popular ones would cost you in the range of 400,000 to 500,000 Pesos. Good news is that you don’t always have to go for the popular ones as new (and really good) alternative brands are cropping up everywhere. These alternative brands would cost you less than half of the what expensive ones cost!
WARNING: Don’t fall for the really cheap ones!
So, what type of franchise would you want get?

I’m Transforming this Blog (Again)
Posted by Mike Lopez in Anything Goes on July 1, 2010
Hello dear reader! I am once more transforming this blog. Actually, it’s not really changing. I’d prefer saying that it’s morphing into something better. This blog of mine have seen many changes as it tries to catch up with my most current flow of thoughts.
But I’ve finally made my mind!
This blog of mine is going to be my hub to shell out advises, offers and recommendations for both budding and experienced Filipino businessmen/entrepreneurs. Yes, I will no longer attempt to blog for everybody but instead focus my energy only to Filipinos here and abroad who are seeking to have a better life by starting their own business.
In other words, this blog is going to be a business blog for Filipinos both local and abroad.
More power to us all and may we fully attain time and financial freedom!
Where are the Filipino Businessmen
Posted by Mike Lopez in Anything Goes on July 1, 2010
Have you ever wondered how many Filipino businessmen are there? Honestly, just by looking around, I have to say that I don’t see that much. But why is that so? I think lots of Filipinos are raised to have an employee’s mindset which is probably why most of us work the usual 8-hours-per-day routine.
But is there an alternative? Of course there is but it requires a change of mind and heart. It requires courage, persistence, time and money. These qualities make a businessman and they also scare off the majority of the population. I mean, who would want to invest time and money in a world where every single dime is important? But that’s what separates the rich from the poor.
My dear Filipino friend, I too am a Filipino and I am writing this blog post for one sole purpose – to encourage you to get out of your freakin’ comfort zone and start a life outside of that eggshell of yours. You know you want to get out, you know you want to be rich but you ain’t gonna learn to swim until you jump into the water.
Maraming mga magandang negosyo sa Pilipinas na pwede mong gawin!
If you need help, advise or assistance then just post a comment below and let’s see what I can do.
It’s Been a Roller Coaster Ride
Posted by Mike Lopez in Anything Goes on November 4, 2009
Life itself can be one heck of a roller coaster ride. There are parts of it when the ride is just smooth, cool and relaxing then all of sudden everything gets fast, upside down and at dizzying speeds. At some point everything just goes backwards and you get all dizzy again and before you know, it’s all back to smooth, cool riding.
That’s exactly what happened to me during the past couple of weeks and as opposed to riding a real theme park roller coaster wherein you’d love to get another ride after the gut-wrenching experience, I do not want to get another ride of this roller coaster ride of life. I’m pretty sure most of us have already experienced such a scene in life, this in fact is not my first one – I’ve been through a lot, each being worst than the previous.
But what do you need to do if you’re in such a ride of your life? Actually, all you can do is just ride it through knowing that it will all end sooner or later. Your knees may shake after you’ve been through it but soon enough you’ll gather the strength to get back up and start living your life – reaching for your goals – again.
Now, I share this experience of mine (albeit in a vague manner) to you in the hope that you may be inspired.
Happy Birthday Kei
Posted by Mike Lopez in Anything Goes on August 2, 2009
It’s Kei’s Birthday today! Kei is my eldest child, my first daughter. Born last August 2, 1999, she has grown to become a lovely little 10-year-old girl with talents in singing and dancing. A leader though a bit timid at times.
We had a simple celebration with some food and her cousins in our house. Nothing big but it was all fun!
Just wish to let the world know that it’s her birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEI!
New Life, New Theme
Posted by Mike Lopez in Anything Goes on July 16, 2009
New theme for a resurrected blog. It’s a free theme called Fusion by digitalsignature. Since it’s free, you might see other blogs out there that look exactly the same. Don’t worry, I’ll customize this theme and add the “Mike Lopez” touch to it – but not yet. I’ll have to squeeze it into my already hectic schedule.
The theme looks fine to me though and I love its Text size and Page width buttons on the upper right corner of the page. Kudos to digitalsignature for that.
Finally, Some Movement
Posted by Mike Lopez in Anything Goes on July 16, 2009
Ok, I know I’m guilty for not updating my blog. I’m sorry. Just been very very very busy with lots and lots and lots of stuff in this world lately. One just cannot anticipate when headaches will come. Life would be better if we had some sort of a red flashing warning light telling us of impending problems but that ain’t the case.
So, finally some movement. I’ve decided to “Rethink my life” which caused a few friends here and there to ask me about it. Well, truth be told, if I want to live my life to its fullest, I really need to reorganize myself and rethink my plans. Otherwise, all that I’m doing – no matter how elegant, awesome or noble – will just be thrown in to the crap bin.
Now what? I made a list of things that I am currently doing and crossed out anything that can or must be crossed out. These basically are the stuff that I’m doing that’s “not worth it” if you know what I mean. The list (sorry, I won’t be showing it here) is so full of crap that I’m amazed how I managed to survive until now. I ended up with a rather manageable set of things that I really need to do on a daily basis after I cleaned up the list.
Next, I allotted time to each of the items left in my list. One hour for this, 30 minutes for that, 8 hours for this, 4 hours for that, etc, etc, etc. I know I won’t be able to follow it to the letter but that’s not what it’s meant to be. It’s not going to be a lawbook that I need to follow “or else”. Rather, it’s a guide that will help me prioritize what needs to be done.
Lastly, I began using Google Calendar once more. It’s been too long since I last used it that I didn’t know it already has a tasks list feature – a very welcome feature indeed. Now I can organize my schedules and keep tabs of my tasks. Even better, I can sync it with my iTouch – another very very welcome feature.
I hope all these rethinking and reorganizing will help me become more productive in the days to come. I have big huge dreams for my family and I just need to be as productive as I can be without having to sacrifice quality time with my wife, kids, mom and brothers.
There, I don’t know how to end this post so I think I just to stop typing.
What’s this all about???
Posted by Mike Lopez in Anything Goes on November 22, 2008
I’ve been blogging for more than ten years now and over those years, I’ve covered a variety of topics which many say reflects the kind of person I am. Being a really talkative person, I enjoy discussing just about any topic that can be discussed – from personal life to the origin of the universe.
To help myself organize my blogs, I chose to put up this “command center” for all of my websites (old and new) so that we can all easily find them. Feel free to visit any (or all) of them and leave comments if you wish.
Personal Stuff
I think every blogger has a site or, in my case, two of stuff that he writes about himself and his view of things. My personal blog is the oldest of all my blogs which I have started more than 10 years ago.
Business and Money
It is inevitable for a person who spends lots of time on the internet to eventually realize the potential of the internet in doing business. As a result, such a person might decide to put up websites about the businesses he has and his views about business.
Web Development and Search Engine Optimization
I am a website developer by profession. PHP is my favorite language and MySQL is my database of choice. Over the years, I have created many websites and web applications for a variety of clients and companies. At present, I work at home as lead developer for a US-based company and occasionally teach PHP, HTML, CSS and Javascripting to students.
Science, Nature and Technology
Oh, I love science and technology. My first ambition was to be a scientist and although I didn’t really become one, I’d say that science is still in my heart. I’m interested in astronomy, biology, physics, some chemistry, artificial intelligence and robotics. I also like going green. In fact, I haven’t bought my own car yet because I want my first car to be a eco-friendly car.
Faith and Religion
I’d say that faith and religion is one of the most colorful aspects of my life. Born a Catholic, became a born again and now an atheist. Some may say that I’m simply agnostic because I somehow put some space for the possibility of a god but that’s simply because it would be impossible to prove that something doesn’t exist.
Stuff to Make you Laugh
Many of my colleagues call me a joker. Even my own kids laugh there hearts out when I start joking around. Jokes and fun in general are an essential part of human development. Imagine a world without laughter… if such a world exists, I definitely won’t survive in it.
Useful Resources
Then of course, from time to time, I do make a few useful things. I’ve personally written a lot of scripts to make my life easier when I’m in front of computer. I won’t be sharing all of them but I do share a few.
Oh well, there you go. With the rate of how things are going, I think this list webpage will continue to grow additional websites being added as dicated by my growing list of things that interest me. Have fun!
Have you ever heard of the “disease” called Monday Sickness? Symptoms are laziness, not wanting to wake up, not capable of focusing on a task, grumpiness, playing games instead of doing work, and all other forms of unproductiveness on Mondays especially during the morning.
